Entrepreneur

Erika went to college like any average young adult. Not necessarily because she wanted to, but because it was the thing to do, the next step in life. After spending a year abroad in Italy studying Graphic Design, she came back to Montreal confident that she was ready to face life head on. She quit school and co-founded her first business, a jewellery company named Jane & Rye. From that experience, she learned a lot, but the desire to travel got the best of her and she decided to sell her parts of the company and buy a one-way ticket to Indonesia. There, she became a Web Marketing Manager for two well-known Montreal based companies, June Swimwear and Sokoloff Lingerie. This allowed her to keep her business savvy mind awake all the while enjoying the comfort of her new exotic home. She also dabbled in Web Design for other companies, and completed her yoga teacher training.

It is during a trip to Ecuador, chatting up Marie-Christine Amyot, a friend who had also chosen to live a non-conventional lifestyle that a certain project called The Salty Souls Experience came to life. Combining her passions for surf, yoga and women empowerment, she flew to El Salvador and embarked in the experience of a lifetime. Organizing all-inclusive trips in the saviour land, she would share her free spirit vibe with groups of 10 lucky women. I was one of those women, and I have to say, her love and hunger of life made me open my eyes to endless possibilities. Now, with more than a dozen experiences under her belt, and over 100 satisfied customers, Erika and her Salty partner are looking to expand their company in different locations. They promise exciting projects to come, so stay tuned ladies!

Guide

As a yogi, Erika is now more self-aware. She is a firm believer that “everything happens for a reason”, and so she chooses to go with the flow. With the help of her practice, she focuses her attention on the now and refuses to stress on petty things. Yoga made her love herself in its entirety, mind, body and soul. Her spiritual awareness helped develop her personal growth as well as create and manifest her true desires. Now, in her retreats as well as on her down time, Erika helps others to see and understand what truly matters to them and guides them through a journey of self-discovery. She believes in people and assures them that anything is possible and that they too can make their dreams come true.

Erika once told me that she keeps a personal diary where she writes her thoughts and feelings. She began to write a few years back to ensure she would remember all of the good, and the bad, moments of her life. Sometimes, she is kind enough to share her wise words with us through her social platforms. I don’t know if she is aware of this, but she is a voice for our generation. So many people, including myself, have felt lost, as if they didn’t fit in this world. She has helped us understand that not all of us do fit in, but that it’s actually a good thing. She pushes people to embrace their differences and let their wild side shine.

Adventurer

When asked why she chose to live on the road, why she quit a good career she had worked hard to build in Montreal, basically why she gave up comfort and security, her answer was quite simple. Why the hell not! I couldn’t agree more. We have been gifted with this life, this one shot to happiness. Why waste it on anything else than beautiful adventures and waves of exhilarating emotions.

“You never know what's around the corner. It could be everything. Or it could be sweet nothing... You keep putting one bare foot in front of the other, in the direction of the sun,
and then one day you look back and you've climbed a frickin mountain.”

Erika is an adventurer at heart. She will never stop exploring. Her curiosity and her need for newness is both enchanting and alluring. I do not know one soul that has crossed paths with her that has not fantasized of joining her on one of her many adventures. May it be hiking a mountain, surfing waves, meditating and chanting to hire spirits, or even dancing her ass off at a party, Erika will live out every experience as if it were her last. Before reaching her thirties, she will have gone on more adventures than most would dream about living in one entire lifetime. She understands how to live life completely and for that she will always inspire me. Keep exploring my friend, it's keeping you bold and young!
